More about Asteroid Bennu

In May 2013 the IAU officially renamed Asteroid 1999 RQ36 to Bennu, the winning entry in the Planetary Society's Name That Asteroid!  contest.

It was named by Mike, a third-grade student in Greensboro NC.

This became the first cosmic object since Pluto to be named by a school child!

This Septemberr the OSIRIS-REx mission launches to explore  the asteroid, returning samples to Earth in 2023
